Who they are

Who
High-functioning adults, roughly 24–50, who already bought the melatonin story and now want out. Sleep is performance, mood, and skin. They want tomorrow to work. They do not want a knockout.
Fear
The melatonin hangover. Groggy. Crabby. Two cups of coffee to start the brain. A night that did not count. Even a low dose can wreck the morning. Higher doses feel worse.
In their words
Honestly I would take less sleep over the melatonin hangover.Need 2 cups coffee to get the brain going
The lowest dose I can find anywhere gives me a horrible melatonin hangover the next day. Groggy, crabby, bad headaches, worse brain fog.
It does make me drowsy but you keep waking up or start getting vivid dreams. And then wake up groggy.
Magnesium is way less jarring than things like melatonin which always made me groggy.
Already tried
  • 3 to 10 mg melatonin. More was supposed to mean better sleep. It meant a worse morning.
  • Unisom / Benadryl. Hours of grog after.
  • DIY magnesium glycinate. Helps some. Still a stack on the nightstand.
  • Some rotate Rx sleep aids so they do not get dependent.
Want
Fall asleep without a fight. Stay asleep. Wake clear. Calm, not sedated. A premium night drink they will actually mix, not another pharmacy bottle.
How they shop
Solution-aware. They already know more melatonin is not better. They listen when the pack says melatonin-free and names magnesium, theanine, GABA. They bounce off hype, knockout claims, and candy-gummy energy. Pre-launch is a trust gap. They have no brand reviews to lean on yet.

Four people in this market

Hangover Maya

Takes melatonin because she has to. Hates who she is at 8am. Wants to wake clear. Afraid nothing else will knock her out.

Wired-but-tired Will

Exhausted and still scrolling. Brain will not power down. Wants to switch off without a blackout. Already has mag or theanine on the counter.

3am Waker

Falls asleep, then stares at the ceiling at 3. Drowsy on melatonin but still waking, often with vivid dreams. Wants sleep that lasts and still counts.

Ritual Riley

Buys with her eyes. Wants a beautiful night drink on the nightstand, not a sleep-aisle bottle. Skeptical of a brand with no reviews yet.
